Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences
Are your kids interested in dinosaurs, rocks or history? The Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences has an extraordinary collection of at least 2 million fossils, minerals and rocks! It is the oldest of the University of Cambridge Museums, having been established in 1728, originally as a Woodwardian Museum. A quick wander around will take you on a unique journey of 4.5 billion years through time while developing an understanding of the solar system, the evolution of life in the oceans and land, as well as a display of animal and plant fossils.
Cambridge University Botanic Garden
The University of Cambridge’s Botanical Gardens is a great place for families to spend time together and explore. These beautiful gardens take you away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre and allow you to get lost with the nature surrounding you. Currently, entry to the garden is with pre-booked tickets only to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Cambridge Treasure Hunt Trail
Attention adventurers! You and your family can go on a self-guided treasure hunt around central Cambridge. Ideal for children of all ages, this 1.7-mile trail will have you searching high and low for clues to help find the treasure whilst learning more about the history of Cambridge.
Picnic at Parker’s Piece
There are plenty of wonderful greens dotted around Cambridge, all perfect for a picnic, but Parker’s Piece is our favourite due to its idyllic setting. Conveniently close to the X5 bus stops, the railway station, historic centre and the Grand Arcade shopping centre.
Lockhouse Escape Games
If you’re looking for something slightly more adventurous, Lockhouse Escape Rooms is a must-visit! Lock yourself into one of the three awesomely themed escape rooms and complete the tasks to find the key before the sixty minutes runs out. Become a group of archaeologists and hunt for your missing teammate before you are buried alive, or a team of scientists fixing a rocket to save the world from an asteroid, or how about a secret agent desperate to complete a mission to stop an evil villain trying to destroy the world.
