Lido’s hit the height of popularity in the 1920’s and 30’s around the country – Jesus Green Lido was built in 1923, the site was chosen to be near local schools and give accessibility to children to dissuade them from swimming in the river.
Sadly, many of these beautiful Lido’s have now been demolished in favour of indoor heated pools but Jesus Green still stands today to welcome swimmers from all over the area, and despite having been upgraded in recent years, this lovely Lido still retains many original features from that art deco period.
It is the longest outdoor pool in the country – 91 meters but is only 30 meters wide, it runs alongside the River Cam so your swimming experience can mimic river swimming.
The pool has a cafe for refreshments but also has picnic tables if you wish to take your own food. There is a grassy shaded area to sit, popular with families. It also boasts a sun bathing area with loungers and a sauna, however these are unfortunately closed at this present time. (Covid)
The pool is open from May to September and has good disabled access.
